Plastic Free Julyplastic free july greener orange and blue sustainable champaign urbana
Single-use plastic is a big problem, especially in the United States. In the first ten years of this century the world has created (and discarded) more plastic than in the entire last century.

July is the time to practice your greener skills! It’s a month-long challenge to ditch disposable plastic by refusing, reducing and reusing. Plastic-free July is a program started in Australia, but America needs to jump in!
Recycling plastic is only one small step in solving our world plastic-problem, so this month eliminate it from your use all together! Let’s see how much plastic Champaign-Urbana is left with at the end of July!

The Challenge:

1. Attempt to refuse single-use plastic during July, including: plastic grocery bags, plastic cups, plastic straws, plastic packaging, plastic bottles, plastic baggies, all plastic that is meant to be used once and then thrown away (or even recycled!).

2. Collect any single-use plastic that you do end up with, to see your results at the end of the month!

3. Share your hard work and the challenge! Challenge your family and friends to Plastic-Free July, and tag us and let us know how you’re going plastic-free via social media with hashtag #plasticfreejuly!

We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
